The Peas
Swaythorpe Growers are the sole supplier of peas to the Darta Yorkshire processing facility. Once at the factory, they handle the freezing, storing, packing and distribution of the peas to the end users. The peas we grow are supplied to a range of customers in different markets including retail, food service and export.
The close integration between Swaythorpe Growers and Darta means we can tailor what we grow to fit with the customer requirements.

Peas are part of the legume family, which are crops that fix their own nitrogen in the soil, meaning no artificial nitrogen needs to be applied to the crop!
We rotate the fields we use to grow peas to ensure we don’t allow a build up of soil borne diseases which affect the crop. This approach enables us to grow peas in the same area for many years to come.
All our growers work to an Integrated Pest Management plan, which helps us to use a combination of techniques to help our crop thrive while using the minimum amount of pesticides.
